The Deadly Tombstone

by Prana Devil

Something I notice a lot when playing WA, is how people percieve the Tombstone, no matter how many games I play with Kane, everyone is expecting one thing, that nasty Chokeslam, Why? I find Tombstone can be a lot nastier in a normal match than The dreaded Chokeslam.

Let's start off with the fact that right now, everyone is expecting an AE Kane, so a lot of people see can and start holding back the AE counters, except, I never hit an AE move apart from that there Arm Drag Takedown, and nobody ever counters that unless it's to try and screw up my start or to stop me getting a long run of moves in.

So everyone's expecting a bunch of AE moves, and instead I start flattening them with In Close moves. Now admittedly this doesn't work to well in tournaments, because people pack for both styles as a precaution I find (or at least I did when I tried this deck in a tournament). But for ranked, I havent found a better playbook myself. So let's have a look at the deck shall we?

Now some people out there will be looking at it and saying "Hang on a minute, whats that Piledriver doing in there? And those Low Blow Headbutts, does he want to DQ himself?"

What I say to that is, how would you like me to land a Powerslam and THEN nail one of them moves? Or more to the point, how would you like a stunning blow to be in play when I land one of them WHILE your stunned from a powerslam?

Now thats getting nasty, I mean here we have a 75 hp guy, he takes -1 to all impact moves, meaning some moves don't even hurt him, and I'm going on a stunning spree, then we look down and I have THREE Top Rope Clotheslines, yeah that's always fun, don't you just wish you could see your opponents face when in the middle of that stun chain, you land a Top Rope Clothesline, not only does it do 9 damage, it also gives you an extra 5 points of HP back, and unless you've been stupid and not stunned your opponent before hand, it's going to find its mark, because it's not often your opponent will have a tough guy waiting for the stun chain.

So What about the Tombstone in the deck? Well it does 10 base damage for a cost of 14, so how does it work better than the Chokeslam? Well when we read the back of the page we see it states "This move does +1 damage for each strike or strength momentum you have" Well thats all I needed to have the page in my deck, now because we want to get as much out of it as possible we have 8 strength momentum and 7 Strike momentum in the deck in total, now you do the match, thats right we have the potential to land a 25 damage finisher in the ring, take it to the floor and that works out to a possible nasty finish of 35 damage, now if your going hardcore you can throw a table or two into the mix if you really want. to increase the damage, but thats not what we're looking at here.

Now we see that with all that momentum, we have to figure out a way of not getting stuck with drawing momentum after momentum after momentum leaving us wide open to be flattened by our opponent.

So we throw in 3 borings and the 3 Arm Drag Takedowns, the borings the opponent doesn't have much say about when their played, and the Arm Drag Takedowns are only countered if absolutley necessary because your mate on the other end about to take the beating is waiting for a Chokeslam and is saving his counters for that, which we all know isn't going to arrive.

So playing them we speed the deck up a little bit, not much, but just enough to pull out those much needed pages, throw that in with the fact that we're getting out a lot of momentum as well and we have in effect, created a speedy kane deck, thats enough to hurt anyone's pride when they take a beating from it.

So in a quick evaluation of the deck, we land the powerslam to hit the stun, play a stunning blow to keep them stunned with the next impact moves, preferably a Top Rope Clothesline or Piledriver, and build up until the last move in the chain is the dreaded Tombstone.

Now some people will be quick to point out I have some Low Blow Kicks in there as well, but if I play both of them, or one of them and a Low Blow Headbutt, I've got more chance of being DQ'd than Rimmer has of being called a Smeg Head on the next episode of Red Dwarf.

So the reasoning for this is, both pages are excellent in their own right, and seeing as i couldn't decide which I wanted to include, I threw in two of each, then if I have the Low Blow Kick available, I can use that to land an 8 damage move and carry on the stun chain, yet if the Low Blow Headbutt appears first, I can nail that with a stunning blow and ditch 9 pages from my opponents playbook.

I think you'll agree it's a nasty playbook, and proves that the Tombstone is one of the most dangerous moves in With Authority if it's played correctly, with a lot of momentum, and a lot of speed.
